Charles A. M. Jones

Charles obtained his B.A. in History and Political Science from Florida International University in April 2010. This was quickly followed, in a much colder environment, by an M.Litt. (with Merit) in Modern History from the University of Glasgow in November 2011. His doctoral research within the “Heirs to the Throne” project centres on the role of Albert, Prince Consort and the influence of the British monarchy in nineteenth-century international relations.

The Albertine Web: Prince Albert and Foreign Affairs, 1840-1861

“My research project will examine the political, legal and philosophical beliefs of Albert, Prince Consort in the field of foreign policy/international affairs as well as the methods he used in an attempt to realise his ideas, both domestically and abroad. Albert’s role as a prime mover in foreign politics, in his own right, is a puzzling gap in the rich recent literature on Victorian politics. Although there are references to his accomplishments in this area, the methods he used to achieve them have been left under-explored, if not, completely neglected. Additionally, the topic allows for a further exploration of the continuing relevance of monarchy and dynastic networks in 19th Century politics, especially in the realm of foreign affairs”.
